January Blues: Marketing ideas to boost business in the New Year

By Stephanie Lowndes on December 1st, 2018

As 2019 begins, the beginning of a new year can mean a whole load of new marketing opportunities for businesses.

Although January can seem like a tough time for Salon owners, with the new year fitness resolutions or healthy eating kicks, you can use this to your advantage with the types of treatments you offer.

Clients may need an extra boost to help them with their post-Christmas blues, and thanks to some insight provided by our talented client base, we’ve got just the tips for you to ensure a busy year ahead:

New Year… New Email!

If you’re looking for new fresh marketing ideas, then why not send out an email to welcome your clients back and boast about your salon services?

Clients will be looking for ways to help them come through the January slump, and what better way to encourage them with either a refreshing facial or a fresh set of nails.

Share your latest treatments, tips and tricks or even offer a new year discount to entice them into the salon. They will be booking in for their appointments in no time!

Refresh that social media calendar

After all that Christmas buzz, your social media may be lacking in new ideas this January.

There may feel like there is nothing going on or no incentives to offer, but this is actually a great time to rejuvenate your social media and shed the festive glow.

Make a note of all holidays or social media days that you can incorporate into your business strategy, maybe fitness January or the preparation for Bank Holidays and Easter.

This way you can utilise a commonly quieter period by scheduling posts and imagery, whilst planning key marketing campaigns for the rest of the year.

Create your own Salon-app

Perhaps one of your 2019 resolutions is to condense paperwork or have a solid system that can keep all your clients’ information in one place.

Well, why not try building your own Salon app? From enabling customers to book appointments, store their past appointment information, or as reminders of their birthdays, let the app do the work for you.

What’s more, your clients can use this app based around their work hours and lifestyle, rather than having to find the time to ring your Salon to book their latest appointment. Plus, it’s a great way to introduce new treatments and offer seasonal discounts too!

Introduction of a loyalty scheme

January is the best time of year to start a loyalty scheme. This way your clients will be encouraged to start booking their appointments from the outset, particularly with the promise of a prize or free treatment along the way,

Don’t be afraid of the ‘January Sale’

No, we don’t mean giving away products for free. But what about those treatments that clients are either too afraid to try or your staff don’t get to do very often?

Perhaps introduce a scheme that if your client’s book one treatment, the next one is 10% off or do the same on some Christmas stock you need to get rid of. Small discounts can go a long way and introduce clients to products they might not have tried beforehand, whilst providing you with some extra self-space!

Host an event

Putting on events don’t have to be reserved for the party season only.

Perhaps some of your stockists have some products to launch or you and your staff have a new treatment available, use this as an excuse to bring back the partywear and celebrate.

Or, if you found your or your staff are quieter than normal, make a day of it and host your own salon open day! Equipped with mini-treatments, goodie bags and demonstrations to help entice newer clients to your customer base, your team can be busy giving your best clients a pampering treat.
