Fergal Doyle has harnessed the power of social media to build a flourishing salon business. Here, he shares his essential tips for turning smart social posts into repeat salon visits…

I’ve found social media to be an invaluable tool in attracting more clients to our salon. It’s all about making connections and showcasing what we do best – specifically through Instagram and TikTok.

We keep our Instagram Stories “always on”, which means consistently sharing what happens daily in our salon. This could be a quick video of a hair colouring process or a stylist sharing a hair care tip. It’s about giving a real-time, behind-the-scenes look into our salon life. This constant presence helps keep our audience engaged and shows them the immediate results they could expect, encouraging bookings.

Cementing the brand reputation

On TikTok, I take the opportunity to cement our brand reputation as hair colour experts, through fun and educational content, answering questions, sharing formulas and showcasing our expertise. This platform also allows us to build trust with potential clients by transparently sharing our knowledge, thought processes and results.

Encouraging our clients to post their new looks and tag our salon is incredibly powerful. Each tag acts like a personal recommendation to their followers, extending our reach. We also motivate our team through a commission incentive to create and share content that highlights their skills and the beautiful work they do in our salon. This strategy ensures a steady stream of diverse content that appeals to various tastes and preferences.

Keep it local

A key to successfully using social media to attract local clients is the use of geo-location tagging. By tagging our salon’s location in posts and stories, we make it easier for potential clients in our area to find us. A robust bio with clear contact details, services, and a link to our booking system makes it convenient for clients to reach out to us. This approach ensures we’re not just visible but also accessible.

For hairdressers looking to grow their client base, social media is not just about posting pictures—it’s about creating meaningful connections, being relatable and building trust. With consistent engagement, educational content, and strategic use of features like geo-location tagging, your salon can attract more local clients. Embrace social media and all its tools to showcase your unique talents and watch your business flourish. Social media opens doors to potential clients who might walk past your salon every day—make sure they have a reason to stop in!

Keep them connected

By focusing on these softer, more relatable social media strategies, you can enhance your salon’s digital presence and attract more clients to your business, ensuring they feel connected and well-informed.
