As a hairdresser, I’ve seen a significant shift in what clients expect from their salon experience. It’s no longer just about hair; people are looking for a full wellness journey. They want products that reflect their values – organic, natural, and ethically sourced – and services that nurture their well-being from the inside out. This demand for a more holistic experience is transforming salons into spaces of relaxation, mindfulness, and health.

Clients are becoming more conscious of what goes into their bodies and onto their skin. They’re asking questions about ingredients, looking for products that are free of harsh chemicals, and seeking out services that align with their lifestyle. This shift is about more than avoiding toxins; it’s about embracing a holistic approach to beauty, one that promotes not just appearance but overall wellbeing too.

At Salon 54, we have embraced this evolution. We’re not just offering haircuts and colour; we’ve created an environment where relaxation, mindfulness, and self-care are central. Whether through full wellbeing services like our EKS Rituals by Revlon Professional, mindfulness-based hair treatments and scalp massages, or simply the calming ambiance we cultivate, our goal is to ensure every visit is a restorative experience.

I think true beauty comes from feeling good on the inside.  Especially in today’s busy society, we need that “me” time to really make a difference in how we feel to keep our batteries fully charged. That’s why I think there’s become an expectation that we are more than just a hair salon. Clients are looking to come to us not just for a haircut or colour but to leave feeling relaxed, renewed or refreshed, and they trust that we have sourced the best products and ingredients to help with this.

One thing I noticed over the last year or two is more people picking up the products we use to have a read of the ingredients before they make their purchase decision. Before, the client would just pick up the product and make their decision based on the smell.

I’ve also seen a shift in appointments too, with more clients opting for extra treatments on top of their maintenance visits. Previously, we would recommend treatments for the benefit of the hair, but now clients are asking for them for the relaxation benefit of the massage.

Salons need to think about committing to offering organic products, thoughtful services, and a wellness-focused environment. It’s more than just hair, it’s about giving the client the space to rejuvenate, restore, and feel their best.
