We visited Nella’s beautiful, sustainable private hair space to hear how she went about setting up an environment that met her eco needs. After 9 years in a salon, Nella had achieved everything she could and went mobile for the next 5 years, but wanted to create a safe, clean working environment rather than going into people’s homes post-covid.
“Sustainability was everything for me,” says Nella, “so I joined Green Salon Collective, they collect all my waste including hair to turn into hair booms which soak up oil spills! Clients feel like they’re playing their part in protecting the planet when they come here.”
From sustainable refillable products to drinks in recyclable cans and a coffee recycling scheme, Nella has thought of everything to suit both her and her clients. Going it alone is never easy, and we asked Nella for her tips on work life balance. “Opening a salon you wear so many types of hats, it’s important to learn what to focus on and when to say no,” she says.
