Running a business alongside being a newbie mum

By Katie Godfrey on September 28th, 2022

As I am writing this, I am 32 weeks pregnant. As you are reading this, I’m hoping I have a baby boy in my arms and I’m not past my due date! This is my second baby. With my first baby I was a single mummy from 10 weeks pregnant then for the next six years of her life. Yet I was running multiple salons, a training academy and a product range! This time round I’m doing the same but with extra businesses and my podcast channel. Oh, and I’m no longer single but engaged. Life is hectic at the best of times. Having a balance between work and family will always be a struggle for most but it can defiantly be conquered to get that balance.

I get asked daily by other business owners “How do you do it?” The secret is systems and teams.

There is no way that I would have the freedom I do, run multiple 6 figure businesses and be off with my children without the below:

  • An incredible team. Letting them take control of my clients. Working on our social media and marketing. Being the stars of the show in the salon.
  • Letting go of the business and letting others run it. It’s not your baby, it’s your business and we need to start running It like one.
  • Delegating. List out all the jobs you currently do – who can them over for you, or can you outsource to someone?
  • Having systems in place. Policies, rules and systems, so that you and everyone know every step of how the business operates, so that it functions smoothly.

With a combination of the above you can have a business – big or small – running for you, rather than you running around after the business and your client’s needs. Working ON the business rather than IN the business has huge advantages including freedom, earning more money and creating a stronger brand.

Even if you work solo right now and want more of a break with your children or just for yourself, you can implement small changes to make this happen. Or maybe you own a salon and you’ve had enough of working 24/7 and not being able to switch off. Business doesn’t have to be like that and you have the power to change it.

Let me help you. It’s really not as scary as it sounds!
