While workplace policies may seem like a little bit of a boring subject, if you’re a salon owner with a team then you need to make sure you have all policies in place for your team to know exactly how your business works and for you to guide them through your processes.
Here are some reasons why you should have policies in place:
- To make sure your team know the ins and outs of your business and what is expected of them which creates a happy team as they know where they stand.
- So, you are completely covered and doing everything above board in the business.
- So the team can be reassured on how professional you are that things like this are in place. PLUS it makes them automatically more professional as they realise, they are working for well-run company.
There are around 22 policies you need within your business. I bet you’re thinking WHAT! I don’t even have one! That’s ok, don’t panic, I have templates for all of these that you can use.
If you do already have policies in place, remember to update them yearly. Book a day out in your diary once a year to go through and update all your policies and procedures.
Policies will protect you if you ever get any unpleasant come backs in your business but they also help YOU. If anything happens then you have a policy that will act as a step-by-step guide for you to work through.
What should your next steps be:
- Write up your policies or purchase them from somewhere.
- Share them with your team.
- Add to your HR system so they are all in one place.
- Have them printed out in a folder within the salon.
Some policies that you would want to implement in your business straight away might be:
- Social media policy – Protecting the professionalism of your business and clients.
- Display screen policy – Many don’t know about this, if you have someone working on reception or social media this is a must have.
- Fire risk assessment – Don’t forget you also should be doing fire drills with your staff every six months.
- Lone working policy – Staff are ok to work on their own but what have you put in place for them to make sure they are safe?
That is just a few that you need within your salon. There are so many more. Feel free to get in touch with me for any advice around this subject.
