It is that time of year again… Christmas. How fast has this year gone? It’s totally crazy.
It only felt like a few months ago I was wrapping presents and now we are at it again.
This month retail is top of mind. I feel that within our industry it is becoming something we do less and less now, which is sad as it should be bigger than ever. Retail I see as free money. I haven’t needed to do anything for that income, no staff layout, nothing! Other than speaking to my clients about what I love. Imagine earning an extra 40% on top of what you do right now? Well, you can, easily.
What can I retail in my business?
Everyone loves buying something new, so why wouldn’t someone buy something from someone they trust. Look at your treatment menu and see what retail you can get to prolong the client’s treatment. Clients are spending a lot of money with us. Putting myself in my clients’ shoes, I would want to know exactly the products I need to use at home to keep my salon treatment going strong. If I didn’t know this and later found out that I should be using a product at home, I would feel mis-sold. A lot of us say “I hate sales” or “I can’t sell”. Well, it’s not selling. It is recommending something a client needs to complete their whole service.
Here are some ideas:
Lash extensions – You can retail professional lash shampoo, lash serums and pretty lash brushes. I recommend KG Professional for your retail needs.
Brow Lamination – You can retail brow glue or brow serum. Again, KG Professional sell brow glue which flies off the salon floor.
Nails – You can retail cuticle oil and hand masks. We love Mooey’s cuticle oil and OPI moisturising gloves
Waxing – You can retail after service lotion. Mooey’s do a lovely range of retail for your salon to offer your waxing clients
You can also retail small items that customers can pick up under £5. Women love nothing more than picking up something pretty. It may have nothing to do with the services you offer at all, but items you just grab and go.
- Some items we have in salon that work really well are:
- Bath bombs
- Branded tumblers
- Mirrors
- Nail files
- Lip balms
We have found having a small amount of stock and then changing the retail around every few months helps the clients stay engaged and excited about what’s coming next. I understand how it can be difficult getting our teams to retail, so I have recently produced a retail course for teams which is perfect to do within your team meetings. It’s interactive and really easy for your teams to start retailing and being confident straight away. If you would like more information, please see www.kgbusinessmentor.com
