My name is Bryony Howell, I am a 25 year old Nail Artist and I am based from my home studio on my parent’s farm in Shropshire. I have been within the industry for a little over 2 years, starting up after the first lockdown.

What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
My advice to anyone starting up would be to invest in your core products such as the tools to prepare the nails. Practice, practice, practice and do not compare your work to others.
What’s the biggest struggle running your own business ? And how do you overcome it?
The biggest struggle to running my own business is the work/life balance. At first, when trying to build up my client base, I would work all hours and say yes to everyone and anyone. It then becomes tricky to set boundaries and working hours! I would say the way to overcome this would be by investing in an online booking system.
As a nail tech, which areas do you find the most challenging and why? Eg competitive pricing, indecisive clients etc
The areas I find most challenging is keeping up with Social Media (Instagram) and indecisive clients. A lot of my time is spent thinking of and creating designs for my Instagram so when a client asks me for inspiration at their appointment I go completely blank and I am all out of ideas!

What has been the most inspirational moment of your career?
The most inspirational moment of my career would have to be having an article in Vogue. If someone would have told me this 3 years ago I would never have believed them.
What’s your favourite quotation or mantra?
My favourite quote is – the harder you work, the “luckier” you get.
What’s your favourite set/s to create?
My favourite sets to create are very minimal, a French manicure of any kind or a plain builder gel with an accent of some kind. I think I am best known for my gold French tips.
