What’s a girl supposed to do while she’s furloughed? Anna’s been busy and tells us how she’s been using her time to get ahead.
Hi I wanted to tell you my story……
I’m Anna, a 38 year old single mother of two. Four years ago I decided I wanted to work for myself so I chose to become a nail tech. I qualified in manicure and pedicure and also as a nail technician. I also qualified in spray tanning and I’m currently doing my level 3 beauty therapist course. I set up Bellissimo Nails and Beauty and I had a pretty good client base. But I needed to move nearer to my parents in Ashford, Kent so I made the move from 120 miles away and started again. This was hard. I had no clients so I had to get another job at Cineworld where I now work in the technical department and I do nails in my spare time. I was furloughed because of the lockdown so I thought this is my chance!

I started making press on nails straight away and I started doing more nail art practice and courses and really pushed to get my name out there. I made a YouTube channel and started an online wild animal nail art tutorial group. I feel that with a bit of help and exposure I could grow my business and I could do this full time rather than work at the cinema. I have attached some of my lockdown work – all hand drawn and painted using gel polish.

N.B. Our Salon and Freelance policies don’t provide cover for you to make and sell your own products, although the mixing or blending of oils and creams that you have bought in the UK from a shop or supplier to use as part of your treatments is covered. If you are selling press on nails that you have made, you will need to arrange separate insurance for that aspect of your business.
