What is salon insurance?

Salon liability insurance is typically obtained as a package and includes various covers. At Salon Gold, our exhaustive packages help to keep your salon business protected at all times.

Public liability insurance is the foundation of salon insurance policy, and safeguards you should your work activities cause injury or property damage to a third party. Seeing as you’ll be in contact with your customers whenever you’re in your salon, public liability cover is critical. Meanwhile, product liability insurance protects you if a product you use or supply causes personal injury to a client, whereas treatment risk helps you out financially if a treatment goes wrong. We also offer cover for legal expenses, personal accident and cover for your shop glass, stock and contents while you may also need some of our optional covers.

Here at Salon Gold, our packages are always tailored towards our clients’ needs, enabling them to get the insurance that’s right for their business.

Salon Insurance FAQs

How much does insurance for a salon cost?

The cost of your salon insurance can be affected by a number of factors including the level of cover you require, the location of your salon, the length of time you have been trading and your claims history. Typically prices can range from less than £300 per year to more than £1,000, but you will often be able to split this cost in monthly instalments to make paying for your insurance easier.

What does salon business insurance cover?

A specialist salon insurance package will provide complete protection for your salon business. Whether you are a hair salon, a beauty salon, tanning salon or nail salon, or even a barber shop or spa, you need to protect your assets and your customers should the worst happen. A salon insurance package can include covers such as:

  • Buildings cover (if you are a freeholder)
  • Salon contents, stock, equipment and glass cover
  • Money cover
  • Business interruption insurance covering your loss of profits if your salon was unable to trade
  • Public liability insurance — covering injury to the customers or damage to their property
  • Treatment risk liability cover — if one of your customers was injured during a treatment
  • Employers liability insurance
  • Legal expenses insurance
  • Personal accident
What is the difference between salon insurance and freelance insurance?

If you are self-employed, freelance or mobile, our dedicated mobile and freelance insurance is designed to suit you and will just provide public liability and treatment risk insurance (plus you can choose to add some optional additional covers such as stock and equipment).

However, a salon package would cover your entire salon including your liabilities, your staff, your stock and contents, your glass, your loss of profits and stock in transit, among other things. If you have a premises, you really should choose a complete salon package to ensure you are fully protected.

How do I make a claim on my insurance policy?

You should notify us immediately, even if you only think you might need to make a claim. We are here to help and quick action could mitigate costs or even prevent a claim. Equally, if you have a routine query on which you would like our opinion, we are always happy to help.

You can register your claim online here.

Do you provide cover if my salon window is broken?

Yes. Your Salon Gold policy will automatically provide cover for glass at an unlimited level. You will have access to a 24 hour glass helpline that will arrange for your window to be boarded and then the glass replaced, any time of the day or night.

What does employer’s liability insurance cover?

Employer’s liability insurance covers any compensation claims made against you by your employees if they’ve been injured or fallen ill due to something that you’ve done or failed to do. As well as covering any compensation awarded, this type of salon insurance also protects you against any other associated costs and expenses, such as legal help. It is a legal requirement for any salons that employ people, and you can be fined up to £2,500 for each day that you don’t have it.
