Award-winning salon, Anne Veck, is now the UK’s first certified carbon-neutral chain of hairdressers.
By using renewable energy and a range of other eco-friendly systems to generate their power, both the Oxford and Bicester divisions have been awarded with the prestigious Carbon Footprint Standard C02 Neutral certification.
The globally renowned Carbon Footprint Standard is an independent certification of a company’s energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
The certificate demonstrates that the company has not only adopted best practice but has also shown real achievements in managing and reducing its carbon emissions and usage.
By adopting the pioneering BlueGenCeramic fuel cell technology to convert gas to electricity, helping heat water and the building, the Oxford salon’s energy consumption is reduced by more than 50%.
The salons also utilise infrared heaters made from recycled materials, which are designed to consume 60% less energy than standard convection heaters and produce no C02.
Keith Mellen, Director at Anne Veck, said: “Sustainability lies at the core of our work and successfully achieving this standard is a huge testament to our team and the work that they have put into reducing our carbon footprint.
We are very proud to receive this certification but know that the work does not stop here. We will continue to reduce our environmental impact even further and help showcase the positive difference that the entire hairdressing industry can make to the environment.”
Anne Veck is known for its unique sustainable approach and has been attracting publicity over the last few years.
The chain is no stranger to philanthropy. Both salons were amongst the first hairdressers in the country to support the Living Wage campaign back in 2014.
