Summer has finally arrived in full force and we’re quite literally melting! Uncomfortable commutes, sweat patches and asking our co-workers at least 5 times a day if they’re baking like a potato too. The English summertime has its ups and downs; while we welcome gorgeous weekend weather, work can become an unbearable place to be in the heat. But fret not! We’ve put together some sweet tips on how to keep your cool in the heat, and make your salon an oasis from the blistering summer heatwave.
Hydration is key
Switch up your salon’s drinks menu. Quench your clients thirst with some chilled beverages. Fruit juices? Chilled herbal teas? Even water with crushed ice is everyone’s best friend on a hot day. These drinks are easy to prepare and can be kept in the fridge to be used at any time. You may even want to go the extra mile and offer some (classy) ice-creams that your clients would absolutely love you for.
Crank up the AC
Invest in a portable air conditioning unit. We know us Brits love to complain about the weather at any given chance, and solving our heat problem would leave us with nothing to complain about. However, it’s about making your clients happy. Portable air conditioning units are relatively cheap and will be easily to set up around your salon. Invest in them now and you won’t have to ever worry about any future heatwaves.
Backwashes, blinds & windows
Salon’s are usually warm places as it is. Hairdryers, both hood and handheld, and a dozen mirror lights, coupled with a 32 degree day isn’t going to be the best combination for your heat woes. Try to cool your salon down by blocking out direct sunlight with blinds and keeping out the heat during the hottest time of the day. Make sure to open windows and create an airflow. Your salon might find it useful to provide iced face sprays to cool your clients, even backwashing your client with the temperature turned down a few degrees (always asking them if they’re comfortable) will provide a revitalising hair wash! Combine with a soothing head massage will leave you with a very happy client.
Down with the dress code
Your staff will feel less irritated if they were able to dress more comfortably. Relaxing the dress code, without comprising standards, will allow your staff to be more relaxed and focused on their jobs. Make sure you are a caring employer to your staff – fatigue due to the heat can result in your staff making silly mistakes that can cause accidents and, ultimately, salon insurance claims and loss of money!
Creating an environment your customers won’t be in a hurry to leave could result in more treatments being requested and time spent at your salon. And be sure to enjoy the sun while it lasts!
