Contents insurance provides protection for any possessions and equipment you keep in your salon. You can select precisely how much cover you need, but you must choose the maximum amount you might require at any point during the policy period. Failing to do this may mean that insurers will be unable to pay the full amount if you make a claim. Cover is provided on a “new for old” basis, which means that even if you purchased an item secondhand, you’ll need to insure it for the full replacement cost. There is also an excess of £250 in the event of a claim.
When working out how much to insure for under the contents section, you should be sure to include the new replacement value of the following items:
- Trade furniture (sofas, chairs, backwashes etc)
- Office furniture (desks, chairs, cabinets etc)
- Equipment (hairdryers, clippers, steamers, towels etc)
- Utensils
- Employees’ and customers’ personal effects
- Documents, record cards, business books
- Computers
- Laptops
- Computerised till/booking system
- All other contents
All of our salon insurance policies include contents cover as standard and you can also tailor the policy to meet the needs of your business. The most important covers for your business are included as standard. For example treatment risk cover is included and will protect you if a treatment goes wrong, or if a client suffers an allergic reaction. Accidents are often unavoidable, so it’s essential that your business is properly insured.
Public liability insurance is also included as standard and applies to any business where you have direct interaction with clients. This cover protects your financial interests if a customer or third party makes a claim related to property damage or personal injury caused on your premises or by your work. At Salon Gold, we understand just how important this kind of insurance is, which is why we offer it as part of our automatic cover, available with every policy taken out with us.
