Whether you style hair or provide beauty treatments, there are plenty of risks associated with working in the hair and beauty industry, which is why insurance is important. It’s likely that your business offers a variety of services and you operate from a well fitted, smart, salon premises. You will need to protect your salon furniture, styling chairs, reception desk, washpoints and beauty beds along with all of your other salon contents should the worse happen.
In the event that your contents are lost, stolen or damaged, replacing them could be extremely costly, leaving your business struggling financially. However, with a Salon Gold insurance policy, you can continue running your business as usual, knowing it’s protected.
What Do You Get With Contents Insurance?
Contents insurance provides protection for any possessions and equipment you keep in your salon. You can select precisely how much cover you need, but you must choose the maximum amount you might require at any point during the policy period. Failing to do this may mean that insurers will be unable to pay the full amount if you make a claim. Cover is provided on a “new for old” basis, which means that even if you purchased an item secondhand, you’ll need to insure it for the full replacement cost. There is also an excess of £350 in the event of a claim.
When working out how much to insure for under the contents section, you should be sure to include the new replacement value of the following items:
- Trade furniture (sofas, chairs, backwashes etc)
- Office furniture (desks, chairs, cabinets etc)
- Equipment (hairdryers, clippers, steamers, towels etc)
- Employees’ and customers’ personal effects
- Documents, record cards, business books
- Computerised till/booking system
- All other contents
All of our salon insurance policies include contents cover as standard and you can also tailor the policy to meet the needs of your business. The most important covers for your business are included as standard. For example treatment risk cover is included and will protect you if a treatment goes wrong, or if a client suffers an allergic reaction. Accidents are often unavoidable, so it’s essential that your business is properly insured.
Public liability insurance is also included as standard and applies to any business where you have direct interaction with clients. This cover protects your financial interests if a customer or third party makes a claim related to property damage or personal injury caused on your premises or by your work. At Salon Gold, we understand just how important this kind of insurance is, which is why we offer it as part of our automatic cover, available with every policy taken out with us.

Contents Cover Insurance FAQs
Contents Cover Insurance FAQs
Do I need contents cover insurance for my salon?
Yes. It is imperative that you take out a policy that includes contents cover insurance to protect everything inside your salon. Regardless of the time taken to care for your contents, situations out of your control may occur. For instance, if there’s a fire that destroys some of your equipment, purchasing replacements is likely to be costly and could cause long-term financial damage to your business. This could impact the stability and longevity of your salon, making a contents cover policy essential should anything bad happen.
What is covered by a contents cover insurance policy?
Our contents insurance protects everything inside of your salon, includes anything your business relies on to run, from salon chairs and beauty beds to towels, hair dryers and telephones. Essentially, if you were to turn your salon upside down, the contents count as any item that would fall out (excluding stock).
Do you offer contents cover for mobile or freelance customers?
Most freelancers do not operate from a premises so will not have a need for contents cover. However, if you rent a room for example, you can add cover for stock and equipment to your mobile or freelance policy. This will provide cover for the stock and the equipment you need to run your freelance business.
