What Does Our Yoga Insurance Cover?

from £56.00* per year

Our comprehensive Yoga Insurance packages provide comprehensive protection specifically tailored to the needs of yoga professionals. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the core coverages included in our standard policies:

  • £3m Public Liability

  • This fundamental coverage protects you if a student or member of the public suffers an injury or property damage because of your business activities. With coverage available up to £5 million, you’re protected against potentially devastating claims.

  • £3m Products Liability

  • If you sell or supply products to your students, such as yoga mats, blocks, straps, or wellness products, this coverage protects you if those items cause injury or damage. Even if you didn’t manufacture the product, you could still be held liable as the supplier.

  • £3m Malpractice Cover

  • Also known as malpractice insurance, this covers claims arising directly from the professional services you provide as a yoga instructor. This includes injuries resulting from specific poses you teach, adjustments you make to students’ alignment, or advice you provide about practice techniques.

  • £10k Financial Loss Cover

  • This protects you against claims for financial losses that don’t involve physical injury or property damage. For example, if a client claims they lost income due to advice you provided or because your services didn’t deliver promised results, this coverage would apply.

* This price is for £3m public, products and malpractice cover (up to £5m available) and £10k financial loss cover for a sole trader. It includes insurance premium tax and excludes our admin charge. ALL customers will pay this amount UNLESS they choose to take out additional optional covers or treatments which are priced separately.

Additional Yoga Insurance Options

We also offer several optional covers to enhance your protection:

Equipment Insurance

Covers your yoga equipment, mats, props, sound systems, and other teaching tools against theft, damage, or loss. This is particularly valuable for teachers who invest in high-quality props or specialised equipment like aerial yoga hammocks or reformers.

Personal Accident Insurance

Provides financial support if you’re unable to work due to an injury sustained while teaching or in your personal life. This can help replace lost income during recovery periods, ensuring financial stability when you can’t conduct classes.

Employer’s Liability Insurance

A legal requirement if you employ staff, even on a temporary or part-time basis. This covers claims made by employees who are injured or become ill as a result of their work for you. For growing yoga businesses that hire reception staff, cleaning personnel, or assistant teachers, this coverage is essential.

Legal Expenses Insurance

Covers the cost of legal proceedings related to employment disputes, contractual issues, tax investigations, and more. This can be particularly valuable for studio owners or teachers who rent commercial space and must navigate complex contractual relationships.

All our insurance policies are customisable to your specific needs, ensuring you get comprehensive protection without paying for coverage that isn’t relevant to your yoga business model. Whether you’re a mobile instructor, studio owner, or specialise in therapeutic yoga, we can tailor a policy that provides exactly the protection you require.

Why do you need Yoga Insurance?

Teaching yoga, either in a group or privately, involves guiding students through physical movements, often in close proximity and sometimes with hands-on adjustments.  Even for the most careful instructor, things can go wrong and without adequate insurance protection, you will be liable for any claims for compensation.

What Risks Do Yoga Instructors Face?

Despite the mindful nature of yoga, this creates numerous potential risks that make instructor insurance essential for professional instructors.

Get a Quote

Risk of student injuries

Physical injuries during practice represent the most common risk. Even with excellent instruction, students may overextend themselves, perform postures incorrectly, or have undisclosed physical limitations that lead to injuries.

Property damage risks

Property damage claims can occur when teaching yoga in various venues. Accidents such as spilled water damaging flooring, equipment knocking over fixtures, or unintentional damage to facilities can result in significant repair costs that would fall to you without adequate insurance coverage.

Professional negligence allegations

Professional negligence allegations might arise if a student believes your instruction or advice caused them harm. These claims can be particularly challenging for yoga teachers who often provide guidance on physical, mental, and sometimes spiritual wellbeing.

Equipment-related incidents

Equipment-related incidents present another significant risk. Props such as blocks, straps, bolsters, and specialised equipment like aerial yoga hammocks could cause injury if they fail during use. Your insurance needs to cover claims arising from equipment that you provide to students.

The financial implications of these risks can be severe. Legal defence costs alone can run into thousands of pounds, even in cases where you ultimately aren’t found liable. Claims settlements for serious injuries can reach life-changing sums that would be impossible for most yoga teachers to cover personally. With comprehensive yoga insurance, these potentially business-ending risks become manageable, allowing you to teach with confidence and peace of mind.

FAQs

Yoga Insurance FAQs

Yes, our standard yoga insurance covers you for teaching multiple yoga styles, provided you’re properly qualified in each discipline. However, certain specialised practices like aerial yoga, acro-yoga, or hot yoga may require specific endorsements or additional premiums due to their elevated risk profiles.

When purchasing your policy, you should declare all the yoga styles you intend to teach to ensure comprehensive coverage. If you later expand your teaching to include new styles, contact us to update your policy accordingly.

If a student sustains an injury during your class and makes a claim against you, your public liability and malpractice insurance would respond to protect you. You should notify us as soon as possible after becoming aware of a potential claim. Our claims team will guide you through the process, which typically involves providing details of the incident, your teaching methodology, and any relevant documentation.

We strongly recommend maintaining good records of your classes, including sequences taught, any modifications offered, and noteworthy interactions with students. This documentation can be invaluable in defending against claims. Additionally, having students complete health questionnaires and liability waivers provides an additional layer of protection, though these don’t replace the need for comprehensive insurance.

Our policies can be extended to cover online or virtual yoga instruction, which has become increasingly popular. However, there are important considerations for digital teaching environments. You should maintain the same professional standards online as you would in person, including proper assessment of participants’ capabilities, clear communication about safety, and appropriate modifications.

We recommend keeping recordings of your online sessions for a reasonable period in case any claims arise. If online teaching represents a significant portion of your business, please discuss this specifically with our team to ensure your policy provides adequate protection for your digital activities.

Yes, our products liability insurance covers you if you sell or supply products to your students. This includes yoga equipment like mats, blocks, and straps, as well as items such as branded clothing, essential oils, or wellness products. Even if you didn’t manufacture these items, you could still be held liable as the supplier if they cause injury or damage.

For substantial retail operations, you might need additional coverage beyond our standard products liability. If retail sales represent more than a minor portion of your yoga business, please discuss this with our team to ensure appropriate protection.

We provide instant coverage with immediate documentation upon completion of your application and payment. This means you can obtain insurance minutes before a new teaching opportunity if necessary. Your policy documents are available for immediate download from your online account, allowing you to provide proof of insurance to venues or clients without delay.

While we’re proud to offer this rapid service, we recommend arranging coverage well in advance when possible to ensure you have time to thoroughly review your policy details and ask any questions about your protection.
