Sports Massage Insurance by industry experts

Working out all of the knots

You’ve trained and worked hard to acquire the massage and soft tissue techniques necessary to be a sports massage therapist. You want to be free to concentrate on delivering a valuable therapeutic service to your clients and we can help by saving you time and money finding the right insurance.

What Is Sports Massage Insurance?

Sports massage insurance is a specialised type of liability insurance designed for massage therapists and bodywork practitioners who offer sports massage services. It’s essential for those in the sports massage industry to safeguard their professional and financial well-being while providing therapeutic services to clients.

Why do sports massage therapists need insurance?

Sports massage insurance safeguards your finances in case something goes wrong, like a customer injury or property damage. With an insurance policy, your insurer and not you will pay out for any associated expenses.

For instance, it covers you in the case of liability claims arising from treatments, such as injuries, negligence, or misconduct during massage sessions. Sports massage insurance ensures legal expenses, medical costs, and potential compensation resulting from such an incident are covered by the insurer.

Sports Massage Insurance FAQs

Do you need insurance as a massage therapist?

Legally speaking, the only insurance cover a sports massage therapist requires is employer’s liability insurance should they employ others. However, it’s highly advisable to obtain other covers for reasons like financial protection, peace of mind, and boosting credibility in the eyes of clients.

What insurance does a sports massage therapist need?

Some of the main insurance covers a sports massage therapist like yourself should obtain include:

  • Public liability insurance to protect you financially if somebody is injured or their property is damaged as a result of your services.
  • Products liability insurance to cover the costs if someone is injured by a faulty product you designed, manufactured or supplied.
  • Malpractice insurance is a specific cover for healthcare professionals that offers protection in the event of malpractice allegations.
  • Financial loss insurance safeguards you from any costs arising from somebody suffering a financial loss due to your services.

These covers form the basis of a standard sports massage insurance policy here at Fitness Gold, though additional covers such as stock insurance, buildings insurance and personal accident insurance may also be useful.

Is it legal to offer sports massages at home in the UK?

Mobile sports massage therapists do not require a licence to offer massages to clients. However, it’s highly recommended to obtain an approved Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject to give you the education required to succeed in the role, as well as to enhance your credibility.

Does sports massage count as physiotherapy?

No, sports massage is not the same as physiotherapy. Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that involves assessing and treating a wide range of physical conditions, injuries, and disabilities. While sports massage can complement physiotherapy, it primarily focuses on soft tissue manipulation and relaxation in order to improve muscle function and recovery in athletes.

Does Fitness Gold insurance allow me to work overseas?

Our sports massage insurance includes temporary cover of up to 14 days for those working abroad — excluding the USA and Canada.

How Much Does Sports Massage Insurance Cost?

The price of sports massage insurance costs depends on aspects like your experience, previous claims history, the amount of cover you need and how big your operation is.

What we can tell you for certain is that Salon Gold guarantees some of the most inexpensive cover around. No matter your circumstances, we strive to keep our sports massage insurance policies as affordable as possible, without compromising on the quality of cover.
