It can be a crowded market, which means that you really need to try extra hard to market yourself as best you can. Particularly in those early days when you’re trying to build your client base.

But how can you make sure that you get noticed over the others around you? To help you on the way, we’ve put together our essential guide to marketing your freelance or mobile business, making sure that you secure yourself as many clients as you possibly can.

social media marketing

Use social media

If you are trying to run your own mobile beauty or hair business, then you really need to get yourself on social media – Facebook in particular! Not only is it a great place for people to recommend your services, but you can also use it for a cheap way to market your business too. Share posts and videos about things you’re getting up to and of your work, or even discounts or offers you’re running. You’ll be surprised how quickly things can grow when you put yourself out there on social media.

tailor yourself

Tailor yourself to your target audience

There is a good chance that your customers are going to have particular times that they can book in to see you. These peaks are lunch hours, weekends and after 5pm. There is absolutely no point expecting your clients to want to work around your hours – in fact, you need to be able to tailor your service to fit around their needs.

freelance offers

But have offers for those that book outside of those times

Whilst you need to be able to work around the times your customers are free, there are also going to be some clients who can be more flexible on when they can book. Why not encourage these types of customers to book by offering “off peak” deals or discounts that they can use? It’s a great way to make sure that you don’t spend your entire afternoon twiddling your thumbs and waiting for your next appointment.

difficult customers

Know how to deal with difficult people

It isn’t easy being a mobile hairdresser or beautician. Whilst the majority of your customers will be a pleasure to deal with, from time to time you may find some clients who are not quite as easy to get along with. Knowing how to deal with these types of people is going to do you well. It may not come instinctively to some, but there are self help guides or online articles, including one we’ve published ourselves, which can help make sure that you stay as calm as possible. You may wonder what this has to do with marketing, but having great customer service is one of the best ways to market yourself, as this will lead to plenty of recommendations from your clients.

Marketing may not come naturally to you, but one thing to remember is that it is key to the success of your business. Even if you just understand the basics of what you can do with marketing, this will be enough to launch your business and make sure that you are the success that you want to be!
