What is Endermologie?

By Darragh Timlin on November 30th, 2016

Endermologie is a type of cellulite treatment that was developed during the 1980s by Louis-Paul Guitay.  It is used to treat burns and loosen scar tissue. It became increasingly apparent that it also improved the appearance of cellulite.

In this series of blog posts we are going to be looking further into some of the more popular beauty treatments available. We aim to get a better understanding of what each treatment is, what it involves and what it does. But what is endermologie? Today we explore the treatment in more detail.

What is endermologie?

Endermologie is a non-surgical treatment and is the first cellulite treatment to be approved by the American Food and Drug Administrator (FDA). The beauty therapy not only improves the appearance of cellulite but it can also improve circulation; relieve minor muscular aches; improve skin tone and skin radiance.  Beauticians, masseurs, physiotherapists, dermatologists and plastic surgeons now use Endermologie as one of their many treatments on offer.

Treatment

During the treatment, patients will wear a specialised body stocking to allow the treatment head to glide over the body and insure optimal hygiene. The therapist will carry the treatment out by using mechanical means of massages, rolling and manipulation of the tissues. Endermologie itself is a machine with a head that holds a small vacuum and two rollers. The vacuum gently lifts the tissue allowing the rollers to roll your skin with ease and comfort. Lots of people consider this skin rolling treatment method as one of the oldest forms of massage. The rolling action acts to break up the fibrous tissue, softening and evening out the tissue by stimulating collagen. This also ultimately speeds up the body’s natural detoxification process, keeping your body at its optimum level of health and a sense of well-being.

The treatment should last for around 50 minutes and during the treatment some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, however treatment should never be painful.
