The gun and stud method of ear piercing is quite a popular and commonplace method of piercing, usually found in shops in shopping centres. For those not familiar with the technique, it uses a piercing gun which is loaded with stud earring. The piercing gun is aligned with the ear lobe by the piercer, who then activates the mechanism which pierces the ear lobe with the stud earring.
While the gun and stud method of ear piercing is quite a common practice, it has significant risks associated with it. Scarring, pain, infection, improper piercing placement, rejection of piercing and risk of catching disease are among the many dangers that piercers of this method face.
