Here are some examples of situations that people with a hair or beauty business hope will never happen to them – and how we helped when it did.
Salon Insurance Case Studies
Legal Expenses Case Studies
And here are a few examples of problems that salon owners have found themselves caught up in when Salon Gold Legal Protection Insurance proved to be worth its weight in gold:
Flooded Salon in Maidstone, Kent
Tap left on overnight and the wash basin overflowed and flooded the salon. We were informed on Friday and arranged to have a new carpet laid over the weekend so the salon was fully operational on Monday morning. Loss of income for Friday and Saturday was paid in full.
Salon Damaged by Vandals in Luton, Bedfordshire
Vandals smashed the salon shop front late at night. The salon owner phoned the Salon Gold helpline and the salon was made secure within 2 hours. Replacement glass was fitted by 11am the next day and signwriters completed the new lettering the same day.
Break-in at Salon in Coventry, Warwickshire
The salon owner reported to us a serious break-in at her salon at 9.05 am . We immediately instructed loss adjusters who made contact with the salon at 9.35 am . Repairs to the broken door were agreed straight away. A cheque was sent 10 days later to pay for the loss of stock, damaged computer and cash register. The salon was able to trade within 3 days and the loss of income was calculated and a cheque was sent to the salon owner.
Serious Smoke Damage to Salon in Manchester
A fire occurred in the restaurant next to the salon causing severe smoke damage. Salon Gold paid for the salon to be professionally cleaned and redecorated. The Salon Gold policy also paid for the loss of income during the redecoration and also whilst the salon was made safe as a result of structural damage to the roof.
Our salon owner’s top stylist left and opened a salon within 400 yards of her former employer. This was contrary to the stylist’s contract of employment. Salon Gold Legal Expenses assisted our policyholder in her action to stop the stylist trading. The court upheld the contract and the Legal Expenses policy paid the salon owner £1,250 for legal costs.
Employee Stealing Stock
A salon owner caught an employee stealing stock. She phoned the Salon Gold Legal Expenses helpline and suspended the employee on full pay. Following careful investigation the employee was dismissed for gross misconduct. The employee took a claim against the salon owner to the Industrial Tribunal. The salon owner won the case and the Legal Expenses policy paid her defence costs of £6,500.
Defended Against Discrimination Accusations
A salon owner interviewed a stylist for a job. Following the interview, our insured decided not to employ the stylist. The stylist accused the salon owner of sexual and racial discrimination. The Salon Gold Legal Expenses policy paid for the salon’s successful defence and her legal costs amounting to £1,250 were paid.
Defended Against Wrongful VAT Claim
Our insured was involved in a dispute with HM Customs & Excise who claimed he had under-paid his VAT contributions. The Legal Expenses policy employed the services of an independent accountant and successfully defended the salon owner. The accountant’s fees of £4,500 were paid by the Legal Expenses insurance.
