Every year, fans of the elite in the celeb world gather to see the stunning creations put together for the Met Gala. This summer, it’s possibly the last year for Vogue goddess Anna Wintour, so eyes were extra eager to see what the rich and famous did to make their dramatic red-carpet appearances. Nobody was disappointed.

Arguably the hottest event in the fashion calendar, we mere mortals are quite used to seeing the biggest names in fashion and beauty arriving at the affair worn by the most popular names in the industry. The Kardashians, Hadids and Bad Gal Riri never fail to show up in anything less than Couture Versace or head to toe Givenchy. However, this year the Met Gala attendees seemed to take it up a level. Styled literally from head to toe, the celebs nails were undoubtedly an important part of every outfit. From encrusted crystals to high-end nail art, nails were this year’s essential accessory.

Here are some of our favourite and most creative nail looks from the night.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki never manages to disappoint when it comes to costuming and the Met Gala was no exception. Wearing a black to red ombré gown with a plunging neckline and thigh-high split, Nicki added a coordinating ombré nail in high gloss with religious cross embellishments to finish.

Blake Lively

One of many people’s nomination for best dressed for the event, Blake Lively wore a stunningly ornate Versace gown with incredible train and sheer panel detailing. Her manicure consisted of a strikingly deep metallic red base with two single statement nails, which were fully crystallised in gold, red and turquoise.

MET 2018 ✨

Katherine Langford

She’s the star of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, but we only need one reason to love this look – and it’s the fact that even Katherine Langford’s entire fingertips are dipped in gold. Need we say more?

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande took the biblical theme literally and we’re so pleased she did. Sporting miniature snippets of the Sistine Chapel on each nail bed, this is nail art on another level. With intricate drips of perfectly placed gold bordering each masterpiece, Ariana takes the prize for most ornate nail art at the ball.

Gigi Hadid

This supermodel didn’t mess about when it came to styling her nails with her dress. Wearing a split to the hip Versace gown, inspired by stain glass windows, Gigi’s nails incorporated the same palette of greens and soft pinks, finished with streaks of metallic gold and crystal borders.

Cardi B

The pregnant hip-hop star stunned everyone with her biblical, pearl encrusted gown and headpiece. Her nails were the perfect accessory, of course, featuring both crystal and pearl embellishments styled at an eye-wateringly fabulous length.

The 2018 Met Gala had a theme of “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and The Catholic Imagination” and the attendees certainly used fashion to create their own variations of what this theme meant to them. However, for us, the theme was eccentric nail art – and we were loving it! The bigger and bolder, the better and we, for one, can’t wait to use these snaps as inspiration for our next OTT mani at the salon.
