2017 is shaping up to be a great year for hair trends. Whether it’s tiger-eye balayage, geode or even Starbuck’s unicorn frappuccino hair, colour is all the rage this season, which is where one of our favourite trends this season comes in; holographic hair.
The aim is to re-create the look of the chrome side of a CD in the sunlight – you know, the side that refracts sunlight to create a sea of exquisite blues, greens, pinks and yellows. Thanks to the work of the clever hairstylists at Ross Michaels Salon in Seattle, Washington, your clients can now have hair to match those holographic nails and that eye and lip make-up they’ve been obsessing about.
Created using a myriad of Pravana shades, including Violet, Luscious Lavender and Blissful Blue, and Olaplex to lock in the blonde hue, this new hair tone is so dynamic that it really does look like a hologram. The multi-tonal, layered approach projects an almost translucent illusion, with a shine that makes this trend as cosmic as it is futuristic.
But holographic hair, like most other rainbow-inspired hair looks, can be entirely tailored to each client.
For a subtler approach, opt for blended colours and let the platinum base take centre stage. If your client isn’t feeling the yellow, you can skip that out with ease and go for more tonal colours that suit their taste. Or, if they’re looking to take this intergalactic trend to the next level, create more intensity with more vivid colours and chunkier coloured sections. Holographic hair may be a bold transition from your usual, run-of-the-mill hair trends, but you there are many variations your client can try to get their desired effect.
But, with a hair trend as much out of this world as this one, it’s probably the best time for your client to allow you to let loose your inner creative colourist, and really shift things up a notch!
