Hair-Raising: Our Top Halloween Hairstyles To Help You Get Your Creep On This Hallow’s Eve

The end of October is coming ever closer and we all know what that means – it’s almost Halloween! Out with the dull and normal, and in with the creepy and terrifying, the onset of the spirit of Halloween brings with it a sweeping change to our wardrobe for one magical night. To open our arms wide to this spookiest of all holidays, we’ve lined up some of our absolute favourite hair looks, that are perfect for helping you decide what you want to go as this year. Say goodbye to balayage, fallayage and all your other ‘yage’s for the evening, and bring out the mad colours and inventive hairstyles:

The pumpkin bun

First up, an easy and kid-friendly look. This cute pumpkin bun is the work of Erica – the hairstylist behind the @magic.maker Instagram account – and is aptly called “the bun-kin”. She created the look by pulling the hair up into a perfect ballerina bun, and then used temporary orange-coloured hairspray to colour the bun, or pumpkin, on top. She then finished things off with a leaf hairpiece at the base of the bun to give the illusion of a pumpkin stem. We think this look is oh so sweet, and definitely great for those who don’t want to go the whole hog with dying their hair permanently.

Make it Medusa

What Medusa costume is complete without her snake hair? This amazing look is the beloved creation of @alexandrarshair, created with the help of cosmetology classmates, @misscoralineblue and @nathaliemalkerson. With big, voluminous curls and gold painted snakes and flowers arranged throughout the do, the team has created a dimensional Medusa aesthetic that’ll really wows.

Mystic mermaid

Mermaid hair has been all over the 2017’s festival trends, but it’s made a comeback just in time for Halloween. A collaboration between a host of talented stylist, this particular look is the work of Maryland-based hairstylist, @hairbykaseyoh, teamed with colourists @alfredo_lewis and @hairbymisskellyo, alongside another stylist, @mustafaavci. This range of talents comes together to produce this beautiful, pastel-toned style that would wow Ariel herself! They used Pulp Riot hair paints and Brazilian Bond Builder to create this gorgeous, pearlescent colour without causing any breakage. Mustafa then finished off with the Sexy Hair range of products to both style and hold their amazing creation that has us wanting to go mermaid ourselves!

If you’ve already got your witch Halloween costume lined up, this hairstyle could add a little magic to your outfit. Created by @kristinemakesthecut, this spiderweb undercut has been combined with a purple and blonde bun that’ll leave your fellow partygoers spellbound. Kristine created the look using Redken’s Blonde Dimensions Dust-Free Conditioning Lightener and Shades EQ Gloss, with a touch of Pravana’s violet for that rich purple tone you’re so desperately coveting.

In a galaxy far, far away

Galactic hair has been all the rage this year, but Hawaii-based hairstylist, Jeni, has taken the look to a whole new level. Featuring blue, violet and magenta ombre, space buns and jewels, this look is totally out of this world. She used Kenra products to lighten and tone, with Pravana shades in violet, blue, wild orchid and magenta to get that coveted galactic colouring. The look is finished with a hairpiece to separate the space buns, and is tied together with extra glitter and rhinestones.

Mystical Unicorn ??? @halfmil ? Had a play time with my favourite pastel princess! Wanna be a unicorn? I'll hook you up!

Everybody wants to be a unicorn

Another hair trend the internet went crazy for this year, unicorn hair is back for Halloween – but with a truly magical hairstyle to boot. Created by hairstylist, @hairbymisskellyo, this dreamy, pastel hairstyle has been combined with side braids and volume at the centre to give that real, unicorn mane-feel. Pair with a unicorn onesie, and you have a Halloween costume that’s sure to impress!
