We’re all guilty of spending hours Googling to find that latest quick fitness fix that will leave us ripped in five minutes, 30 pounds lighter and able to look stunning in that red dress (or shirt!) we’ve had stowed away in our closet for the past 4 months now. However, while we can’t promise any quick fix or miracle weight loss workout, instead we thought we’d look at some of the best fitness trends of 2017 so far – trends and technology that will help keep you fit, healthy and wise about what’s best for your body.
We’ve known the benefits of using the friction of water to maximise our workouts even more, but HIIT (high-intensity) combined with swimming takes this workout to another level. Virgin Active is offering “Hydro” – their circus class taking place in a pool that involves aqua–jogging, timed sprints and of course, planks. The water-based aerobics doesn’t stop there however; AuaAllaure situated at the Crowne Plaza London Docklands is an exciting spin class that takes place underwater, providing an intense cardio session mixed in with some resistance.
There’s a reason why Yoga takes it’s rightful place on almost all fitness articles – it’s enviably effective and comes with bountiful benefits. The ancient mind-body practice can be done on the go and is able to help elevate your mood, improve your wellbeing and strengthen your entire body. Yoga is being reinvented through many “fads” – think hot yoga or rope wall yoga – however, normal yoga will aid in your search for a perfect fitness regime, not just physically but mentally too.
Body weight training
Body weight training, like the name suggests, involves using the weight of your body to train your muscles, providing a cheap and quick way to stay fit without the cost. Giving you the flexibly to do them at home without the need of signing up to a gym, squats, lunges, planks and push-ups are some of the most common exercises. Body weight training is the fitness regime that reigns supreme when it comes to affordability and Instagrammable results.
We admit, we made the assumption that the wearable technology fad would have been long gone into the abyss with the Atkins Diet, but companies have upped their game with wearable technology that works in sync with your fitness regime really, really well. Apple and Fitbit lead the way with their technologies being able to track distance, monitoring your heart rate, reminding you to walk, telling you how many calories you’ve burnt and much more. And while the upfront cost of one of these devices might be more money than you’re willing to spend, they can really help you tailor your exercise regime to get your desired results, and keep up to date with how you’re coming along in real-time.
This article wouldn’t be complete without throwing in one zany workout craze that has taken this year by storm. Kangoo involves wearing absurd shoes that allow you to jump real high like a – you guessed it – Kangeroo! The fitness regime is excellent for cross training and running, the shoes allow the user to perform exercises that burn twice the calories due to the use of more leg muscle, all the while being easier on the joints! It’s definitely one of the stranger workout fads we’ve seen this year, but we’re game for a go!
