It’s that time of year again. The Christmas lights are up, wreaths are decorating doors and trees across the globe are being decorated with baubles and tinsel. Christmas jumpers are coming out of drawers, and it seems everywhere you turn, everyone is getting right into the festive spirit. But there’s something we don’t normally tend to get festive with – our hair – and that seems a downright shame! So, to get us all in the holiday spirit, we’ve taken a look at some of our very favourite festive hair creations that are perfect for Christmas.

Pine-coloured perfection

After a year of crazy hair colour trends sweeping Instagram, let’s start off with something vibrant and colourful. This Mohawk style hairstyle is the creation of Instagram user, @beautybyashley and we think it’s absolutely to die for! Whimsical, playful and fresh, you can dress this colour up any way you please – although we’d recommend adding some little baubles or tinsel to get that festive Christmas tree look that’s perfect for Christmas jumper day.

How cute is this?! #RudolphHair #SockBun #MyStudentsAreSoStylish #iteachsecond

Rudolph the red-nosed hair bun

Ah, the Rudolph hair bun – an oldie but a goodie nonetheless! This look requires very minimal effort and a couple of craft supplies, but looks so cute and festive when it’s done right! To try it out for yourself, simply brush your hair back into a ponytail and use a mist of hairspray to keep any fluffy hair under control. Create the bun by twisting the ponytail until you have the shape of a bun and secure with enough hair grips so it holds well. Use grips that are the same colour as your hair if possible. Then push a hair grip through a red pompom and secure it in the middle of the bun to make the nose. Stick googly eyes at the top of the bun and then use pipe cleaners as antlers. Finally, secure with hairspray and voila – your very own Rudolph hair bun!

Holly & ivy

Remember that Christmas carol about the holly and the ivy? Well, now you can put your them to some good use with this holly and ivy hairstyle. The hairstyle, from Instagrammer @kateklein_mua, combines a messy and textured look with a flourish of foliage for a look that screams Christmas. This one is definitely a winner if you’ve got a Christmas party coming up to help finish off your outfit beautifully.

Put a bow on it

Bow hair is generally a winner no matter what time of year it is, but at Christmas, it’s the ideal way to give your hairstyle some pizzazz for any parties you’ve got coming up. We particularly love this interpretation of the style from @insiderbeauty – those purple tones are simply gorgeous and blend beautifully with the bow hairstyle. It’s definitely a present we’d like to open on Christmas day!

🎄Jingle All The Way🎄 @chelvis4hairz #bettydain

Jingle bells

This hairstyle is beautifully simple and really effective. Created by Instagram user @bettydaincreations, this messy bun with a twist combines contrasting hair colours and is finished with its own set of bells in festive red and green. A really lovely way of getting festive without going all out, this one might just be perfect for drinks on Christmas Eve – relatively low maintenance but incredibly high impact.

Winter wreaths

Last but not least, what Christmas could be complete without a wreath? Hair wreaths are like the flower crown of winter – they look beautiful, add a bit of decoration without the fuss and work for almost all hair styles and types. We’d recommend going a little wavy or curly with this one, as Instagrammer @mujeralia has, but pretty much whatever hairstyle you choose to go for will look fresh and festive with this look.
