Summer is well on its way. We’re all feeling it; dragging the BBQs out of the shed and starting to begrudgingly mow the lawn on the regular. When the changing of the seasons comes along, so too does a plethora of new beauty and hair trends (thank goodness, as it gives us endless browsing fun while enjoying the sunshine!).
However, not every summer trend is hot hot hot. Arctic hair is one of the biggest predicted trends of the sunny season and it’s colder than ice, in the very best of ways.

This super-icy colour palette is bright, ashy and deliciously cold, which we think is going to be the perfect juxtaposition to the heatwave of the summer months. There are several variations on the trend, as is usually the case with a hot colour trend. Some stylists are bringing in a little bit of subtle balayage, keeping the roots a slightly deeper blue and leaving the ends extra platinum, giving the overall look added dimension.
Some stylists are already evolving the look to incorporate other colours and tones, including greens and deeper blues against a more natural root. This multi-tonal effect on longer hair lends itself perfectly to bouncy beach waves.
Building the colour up from a darker base is tricky but possible. The ombré effect is a little bolder than a discreet balayage and takes a dark root through to blues and turquoises and then platinum ends.
Some variations on the look are more pastel, with a hint of grey to the palette. As long as the tone stays ultra-icy and cool, you’ll be right there with the trendsetters on the ‘gram.
The trend isn’t just for long hair either. By using different depths of grey and teal shades, it works stunningly on a shorter, cropped style with layers or bobs. The longer the length, the easier to create an ombré effect. However, shorter styles can still incorporate several shades to create these statement looks.
So, will you be one of the brave ones that dares to enter into the spirit of summertime colour trends? This icy arctic blue is one of the most creative trends we’ve seen so far, this year and we’re can see it sweeping across social media platforms worldwide. As with all super-light hair colour trends, it’s all about taking care of the colour by investing in the right products.
