As beauticians, you need to keep up with the constant changes in the industry.

That means being the first to know about the latest Instagram trends, street style looks and of course, next season’s runway beauty trends. And, whether it’s Versace’s glittering makeup or the Rochas graphic cat eye, it’s crucial that you’re the one to bring these looks to your customers first.

Here are the top 2019 trends that you need to know about now.

1. Post-Facial Glow

Beautiful skin is always in style. But this season, models at Balmain, Isabel Marant and Stella McCartney looked as if they were fresh from a facial. And with hair swept back with one of this season’s hottest accessories – the headband, all focus was on the face.

Dewy moisturised skin and barely-there makeup isn’t an easy look to pull off, however. As such, it’s important to stress to your clients the importance of a good facial skincare routine, as well as regular facial treatments.

2. Orbit Nail Art

While nude nails are the norm at most fashion weeks, New York Fashion Week is always an exception. This year, the most striking summer nail polish trend was the ‘orbit’ nail design seen at Jeremy Scott. The look combines a white base with a precise line of colour around the edge of the nail.

Nail technicians should expect lots of requests for this look come spring. After all, although they’re more practical than some of this year’s weirdest beauty trends, orbit nails are far from easy to DIY.

3. Seascape Eyes

One of the key trends for spring eyes takes inspiration from the blues and greens of a stunning summer seascape. A definite contrast from the acid eyeshadow of summer 2018, this look is striking but more wearable.

While Tibi, Longchamp, and MSGM favoured black kohl on the inner eye, Cividini took this simple look to another level by tracing a green line inside the eye. Gabriela Hearst and Alice + Olivia opted for a bold cobalt blue eyeliner, and pastel blues were the order of the day at Peter Pilotto.

Encouraging your clients to experiment with different-coloured eyeliners like this is a great way for them to go for a new look without adding any time to their makeup routine. And, if your client has brown eyes, even a subtle change from a black to a dark blue eyeliner has the added bonus of making her eyes pop.

4. Romantic Renaissance

English roses can rejoice as this romantic, ethereal look is ideal for highlighting fair complexions.

Makeup is minimal, with lightly stained lips, a touch of natural blush and barely-there eye makeup. To complete this innocent look, sweeping wavy locks were half clipped back or pulled into pretty ballerina buns.

And, for an extra touch, models at Giorgio Armani wore bows in their hair, while Rodarte offset the minimal makeup with flower-strewn tresses. This ultra-feminine trend is sure to be popular come spring, especially with brides wanting to create a delicate look for their wedding.

5. Glitter Bomb

If disco is more your era, you’ll be pleased to hear that glitter is still going strong in the beauty industry.

Missoni and Simone Rocha went for glittering eyes, while the look at Halpen was made for lovers of all things glittery. Jewel and foil finishes swept both eyes and lips at other shows, including Jeremy Scott. Crystal detailing added extra sparkle at Valentino, and Versace went for metallic cat eyes.

For a spring or summer event, shimmering metallics and glittering eyes make a fun and modern statement for your clients.

6. Pillar-Box Pout

A slick of sheer lip balm was the go-to look for most of fashion month. But, at Paris Fashion Week, the key runway beauty trend was a bold red lip.

Givenchy went for a classic pillar-box red, Chanel edged towards a coral red while Moschino opted for burgundy. And, even Chloe, which usually favours minimal makeup, went for a moody red lip.

Red lips are always in style, but the key to helping your client embrace this look is finding the perfect shade for her complexion.

7. Heatwave Hues

If runway beauty trends are anything to go by, 2019 is set to bring another long, hot summer.

Sun-kissed skin was all over the catwalks, from Altuzara to Prabal Gurung. And then there was the Chanel By The Sea show, with summery beauty looks to match.

This look is all about a warm base with golden highlights across the cheeks, nose, and forehead to create a healthy post-holiday glow. Surfer-girl hair completes the look for a dose of beachy beauty.

8. Graphic Cat Eye

An expertly-applied graphic cat-eye look was one of the hot runway beauty trends for 2019. As if a perfect feline flick wasn’t hard enough already!

Marni went for maximum effect with graphic swoops, while graffiti-style freehand designs wowed at Dior. Several models at Coach’s spring show displayed a cat-eye that formed a triangle below the eye.

For an easier look to show your clients, Marco de Vincenzo opted for a poker-straight liner wing. Or, you could give them a graphic triangle outline, as seen at Rochas, for a more modern take on the classic feline flick.

9. Pink All Over

Many makeup brands now have colour sticks or powders that can be used on the lips, cheeks, and eyes, for simplicity and coordination.

And, while all-over pink might sound sickly sweet, this season’s catwalks showed that a wash of pink can be fresh and bold.

Models like Bella Hadid wore pink eyeshadow at Brandon Maxwell’s Texas-inspired show. Vivienne Hu and Badgley Mischka went for a sheer wash of pink across the cheeks, eyes, and lip. And at Area, makeup artists swept a holographic pink highlighter from the cheeks to the brow bone.

The Top 2019 Beauty Trends

In comparison to the popular beauty trends of the past, today’s beauty looks can be fleeting.

But, with so many different ways to highlight your clients’ individual features and personality, you can help them embrace the trends that work for them. So, whether they’re looking for a minimal look or prefer something more striking, you’ll be sure to know how to give them a modern beauty look they’ll love.
